    Nuevo siglo, neorrealismo y mundo.

Meditations Through the Ṛg Veda: Four-dimensional Man.Antonio T. De Nicolás - 1978 - Shambhala Publications.
This book presents original translations and a penetrating analysis of hymns from the Rg Veda, the earliest literary document of the Indian tradition. For many years the Rg Veda has been a source of interest and inspiration to Western readers. Composed in the predawn of recorded history it narrates the struggle of the Aryans as they tried to unify the world around them by sharing a common vision.

How Do Health Professionals Maintain Compassion Over Time? Insights From a Study of Compassion in Health.Sofie I. Baguley, Vinayak Dev, Antonio T. Fernando & Nathan S. Consedine - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11:564554.
Although compassion in healthcare differs in important ways from compassion in everyday life, it provides a key, applied microcosm in which the science of compassion can be applied. Compassion is among the most important virtues in medicine, expected from medical professionals and anticipated by patients. Yet, despite evidence of its centrality to effective clinical care, research has focused on compassion fatigue or barriers to compassion and neglected to study the fact that most healthcare professionals maintain compassion for their patients. In (...)

    Disruption. [REVIEW]Antonio T. de Nicolas - 1998 - Review of Metaphysics 52 (1):128-130.
In an age of disembodied speakers and digitized voices, when the uninterrupted flow of language is the skin of our sensations and the interruption of its disembodied flow a capital or political offense, a book clamoring for “disruption” of this phonetic movement should raise our anxieties to a level that even our bodies might register. Should we read such a book? Is the author a native; is he on drugs? What’s wrong with him? Why dig beneath the troubled surfaces of (...)

Multifunctional plasma membrane redox systems.Miguel Ángel Medina, Antonio Del Castillo-Olivares & Ignacio NúÑez De Castro - 1997 - Bioessays 19 (11):977-984.
All the biological membranes contain oxidoreduction systems actively involved in their bioenergetics. Plasma membrane redox systems seem to be ubiquitous and they have been related to several important functions, including not only their role in cell bioenergetics, but also in cell defense through the generation of reactive oxygen species, in iron uptake, in the control of cell growth and proliferation and in signal transduction. In the last few years, an increasing number of mechanistic and molecular studies have deeply widened our (...)

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (TS) is a childhood neuropsychiatric disorder characterised by the presence of motor and vocal tics. Patients with malignant TS experience severe disease sequelae; risking morbidity and mortality due to tics, self-harm, psychiatric comorbidities and suicide. By definition, those cases termed ‘malignant’ are refractory to all conventional psychiatric and pharmacological regimens. In these instances, deep brain stimulation (DBS) may be efficacious. Current 2015 guidelines recommend a 6-month period absent of suicidal ideation before DBS is offered to (...)

Mechanism, Life and Mind in Modern Natural Philosophy.Charles T. Wolfe, Paolo Pecere & Antonio Clericuzio (eds.) - 2022 - Springer.
This volume emphasizes the diversity and fruitfulness of early modern mechanism as a program, as a concept, as a model. Mechanistic study of the living body but also of the mind and mental processes are examined in careful historical focus, dealing with figures ranging from the first-rank (Bacon, Descartes, Spinoza, Cudworth, Gassendi, Locke, Leibniz, Kant) to less well-known individuals (Scaliger, Martini) or prominent natural philosophers who have been neglected in recent years (Willis, Steno, etc.). The volume moves from early modern (...)

    Engaging Stakeholders in Extraction Problems of the Chilean Mining Industry through a Combined Social Network Analysis-Analytic Network Process Approach.Rocio Poveda-Bautista, Hannia Gonzalez-Urango, Edison Ramírez-Olivares & Jose-Antonio Diego-Mas - 2022 - Complexity 2022:1-15.
This paper proposes a state-of-the-art methodology for the analysis of stakeholders and their role and performance related to SMEs in the mining industry in the Chilean region of Coquimbo. The relationships between the actors are studied and prioritized according to their support network position. An individual index for each actor based on their influence on solving problems is provided. The social network analysis was used to know the influence of the actors in the sector through the centrality measures. Furthermore, a (...)

How Wide the Divide? – Theorizing ‘Constructions’ in Generative and Usage-Based Frameworks.Matthew T. Carlson, Antonio Fábregas & Michael T. Putnam - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
What is the nature and function of mental representations in cognitive science, and in human language in particular? How do they come into existence and interact, and how is the information attributed to them stored in and retrieved from the human mind? Some theories treat constructions as primitive entities used for structure-building, central in both production and comprehension, while other theories only admit construction-like entities as devices to map the structure into semantics or to relate them to specific morphophonological exponents. (...)

Contemporary linguistic parameters.Antonio Fábregas, Jaume Mateu I. Giral & Michael T. Putnam (eds.) - 2015 - New York: Bloomsbury Academic, An imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.
Parameters have lain at the core of linguistic research in the generative tradition for decades. The theoretical questions they have raised are deep and broad: this reference text investigates how contemporary linguistics has best tried to answer them. This book looks at how parameters might be properly defined and what their locus might be :lexical information, functional heads, the computational system, the phonological branch of the grammar. What kind of data forms trigger acquisition of a parameter? Are parameters necessary or (...)

We propose a nonmonotonic Description Logic of typicality able to account for the phenomenon of combining prototypical concepts, an open problem in the fields of AI and cognitive modelling. Our logic extends the logic of typicality ALC + TR, based on the notion of rational closure, by inclusions p :: T(C) v D (“we have probability p that typical Cs are Ds”), coming from the distributed semantics of probabilistic Description Logics. Additionally, it embeds a set of cognitive heuristics for concept (...)

Emotion recognition skills and the ability to understand the mental states of others are crucial for normal social functioning. Conversely, delays and impairments in these processes can have a profound impact on capability to engage in, maintain, and effectively regulate social interactions. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the performance of 42 autistic children, 45 unaffected siblings, and 41 typically developing controls on the Affect Recognition and Theory of Mind subtests of the Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment Battery. There were no significant (...)

Algebraic Analysis of Demodalised Analytic Implication.Antonio Ledda, Francesco Paoli & Michele Pra Baldi - 2019 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 48 (6):957-979.
The logic DAI of demodalised analytic implication has been introduced by J.M. Dunn as a variation on a time-honoured logical system by C.I. Lewis’ student W.T. Parry. The main tenet underlying this logic is that no implication can be valid unless its consequent is “analytically contained” in its antecedent. DAI has been investigated both proof-theoretically and model-theoretically, but no study so far has focussed on DAI from the viewpoint of abstract algebraic logic. We provide several different algebraic semantics for DAI, (...)

The proposed logic relies on the logic of typicality ALC + TR, whose semantics is based on the notion of rational closure, as well as on the distributed semantics of probabilistic Description Logics, and is equipped with a cognitive heuristic used by humans for concept composition. We first extend the logic of typicality ALC + TR by typicality inclusions of the (...)

We introduce a generalization of MV algebras motivated by the investigations into the structure of quantum logical gates. After laying down the foundations of the structure theory for such quasi-MV algebras, we show that every quasi-MV algebra is embeddable into the direct product of an MV algebra and a “flat” quasi-MV algebra, and prove a completeness result w.r.t. a standard quasi-MV algebra over the complex numbers.
